Overcoming Your Own Fears

Everyone is afraid of the dark, of being left alone in the dark, of being in a place which is dark and abandoned, or anything that might trigger your ‘fear’ mode.

As every ‘true’ paranormal investigators should know, the only way to combat that ‘fear’ is by understanding what exactly you’re dealing with. It’s alright to admit to yourself and anyone around you that you are a little or a bit afraid when the sensation comes during an investigation. The best way to boost the morale of your team mate is to tell him/her that it’s alright, “We are nearby so don’t be afraid. The more you show to it that you’re scared of it, the more it will come and ‘attack’ you.” Those kinds if assurances from your fellow team mates is encouraging enough to make you take that extra step in your investigations.

For myself, I readily submit myself to God. He alone that Protects and Wills it if anything should happen to me on our investigations.

Below is a few tips I got off the net:

Every person in the world has some kind of fear or even fears. However it doesn’t mean that you put up with it for the rest of your life as you should do something about it. So, make sure that you put in all the effort in overcoming your own fears.

Steps to overcome your own fears

The first step – For the first step you will need to admit to yourself that you are scared of it and you want to do something about it.

The second step – Then you should just visualise your fears and think that you are near it and what you will be doing if it really were so.

The third step – After once you has done the second step quite a few times then you will need to do it for real. For example, if you are scared of spiders then you should just get a fake one and think or imagine if it is real and see if you get scared. If you do not then I think that it is time for you to overcome your own fears.

The fourth step – For this step you will need to get the close to your fears but not too close and then you should just see if you were close what you would do and also how you would act. Do this a couple of times to get ready.

The fifth step – And now for the big event you will need to conquer your own fears and make sure that you get yourself and take for a good memory.

Provocation in Paranormal Investigations

I read an interesting article on this matter. Below is it…

I decided to do a write-up concerning provoking due to the staggering number of people I’ve encountered that use provocation as a standard part of their investigative routine. Provoking, when done correctly, is a very dangerous routine and should never been taken light-heartedly. Too many people doing this do not take it as seriously as it should be taken. There are many problems with that and the paragraphs below will discuss what provoking is, what it does, what it can do, and when provocation should and should not be used.

What is provocation?

Provocation, or to provoke, is to actively, purposefully call on any spirits present to reveal their identity, to show themselves, or to give a sign of their presence. This should ONLY be done by a demonologist, or someone who knows, to great extent, what they’re doing and how to STOP what they’ve begun, should the provocation work. True provocation ONLY works on one type of spirit, the inhuman spirit; the negative, demonic or diabolical spirit. It may, however, also work on a negative human spirit as well. Provoking is very dangerous because, in all actuality, it is an invitation for the spirit to manifest. Most often, and depending on who is doing the provoking, provocation does NOT work. Why? There are many different reasons. In most cases, the spirit may know the provoker to be of no threat to them and simply does not obey, or is more powerful than the provocation.

There are numerous methods of provocation, and which one works best would be determined by the type of spirit present. In general, the person doing the provoking needs to figure out what form of provocation produces the desired results, and continually needs to adjust as necessary. Like people, inhuman spirits are “annoyed” by different things and that can be used to the demonologist’s advantage. Without having to perform “true” provocations, the spirit can be provoked using annoyances, thus increasing activity without bringing out the full force of the spirit present. That is a good way of gaining evidence without going too far, too fast. Start small and simple, and work up when necessary. Using the “annoyance” form of provocation requires a lot of trial and error, for like people, we won’t know what annoys it until we find something that does. If the “annoyance” method of provocation does not work, then the person performing the provocation would have to go to a higher level. This is where care must be taken, for now we are personally directing an “attack” on the spirit and it WILL take it personally and retaliate. Prayers are another form, and can be a powerful form, of provocation. When the intent of a prayer is simply to provoke, there is a good chance of the activity within a house to increase. Conversely, some forms of provocation will cause a spirit to temporarily leave. Nothing says a spirit HAS to stay in the house during a provocation and many times during a prayer form of provocation, the spirit will simply leave and come back at a later time… possibly to retaliate. Remember, now the provoker is outright confronting the spirit, and they don’t like that. Still another form of provocation is an outright command, using Holy Names, for the spirit to reveal itself. This CAN be the most dangerous form of provocation, for if the right person is doing the provoking and the negative spirit has not left the house, it MUST obey. But HOW it obeys is up to it… it can reveal itself by a simple knock on a wall or floor or it can conduct an all out siege on the house and everyone within the house. This leads me to when provocation should and should not be done.

When provocation should and should not be performed

First of all, if a human spirit is involved, provocation should NOT be done. Why? Provocation, in general, uses God’s power and will to command, most human spirits have a belief in a “higher power” and don’t consider Holiness a threat because they’re on the same side. The provocation will, normally, be completely ineffective. An experienced paranormal investigator or demonologist should know this. There are many other means of dealing with human spirits but I will not cover those, there are numerous resources on the internet and elsewhere for that. If a person or investigator is truly psychic, there are only a few instances when true provocation is needed, they should be able to rely on their abilities to determine what type of spirit is in the dwelling. Again, because of the inherent danger of provoking a demonic or diabolical force, it should only be used when absolutely necessary. And when it is used, the person conducting the provocation should know, without hesitation, how to be able to handle the situations that may arise. As stated earlier, if activity is already present, there should be no need, whatsoever, for provoking… because provoking while activity is already taking place has the possibility to increasing the activity to uncontrollable levels and that is unsafe for everyone involved. If provocation is deemed necessary by the demonologist or experienced investigator, they should consult the family or individual first as to why they deem it necessary, how it will be done, and what they should do should activity or manifestations occur. If the family is not comfortable with this idea, the provocation should not take place. If the family is agreeable, all people not involved should gather in ONE location or room while the provoker (who should have another person with him/her) is in another. This is for the safety of family members, for once provocation begins, the person provoking becomes the sole target of the force they’re attacking and it would be a grave error to include the family in this aspect.

What is the purpose of provoking?

Again, that will depend on who you ask. In all actuality, the purpose of provoking is to increase activity so it can be sensed either visibly or audibly or used to gather evidence. So, why would we want to do that? Not everyone has psychic abilities, the means of sensing what is present, and therefore require more proof as to the nature of what’s present. If the person conducting the provocation has no psychic ability and there is no activity taking place, provoking will, depending on all the circumstances listed above, give them the ability to quickly determine the nature and strength of the spirit present. They would know, first off, that what they are dealing with is inhuman in nature, because it reacted to God’s command (remember, although the provoker is the one speaking, it is the power of goodness and Holiness that does the actual commanding). They would also get a feel as to the general power of the inhuman spirit, that is very general though because, again, the spirit will respond in any way IT chooses, not the way the provoker chooses. Another purpose for provoking is if church intervention is deemed necessary. In my experiences with the various religions, most church officials will not authorize a priest or other religious authority to respond or act based on a simple claim by an individual or family, that is too risky, understandably so. The church will normally require much evidence as to the activity taking place before they get involved and, at times, may send a priest to the victim’s house as a witness to the alleged phenomena. Provocation at such a time will be helpful in proving the case as factual and real.

To summarize, very few cases truly require provocation. Again, if YOU are the one in crisis and an investigator claims a need to provoke, ask questions, it’s your right. Ask WHY provoking is necessary, ask WHAT they will do should it work. If you are not comfortable with their responses, don’t allow it to happen, it’s YOUR house, it’s YOUR crisis, they get to leave when they’re done, you’re stuck there, left to deal with any outcome of a botched investigation. Provoking can be a very power ally of the experienced investigator or it can be a very powerful enemy of an inexperienced person who goes too far, too fast.

Mike Roberge

I do conduct my investigations by provoking the unseen, trying to make them respond to your demands, on a few occasions. To me, it does work, but since we’re dealing with the unseen, you might never know who this IHS (In-Human Spirits) are, and I dare say it is a risky proposition.

There was one particular investigation we did at Pasir Ris Bird Sanctuary, whereby Raz (EVP Specialist/ Paranormal Investigator) and myself were at this spot. We called out to the entity as usual in our EVP Session. At a certain point of the provocation (Normal provocation, not mean ones!),  I felt a breeze on my left arm and that night was as humid as any other nights in Singapore could be.

Quite baffled by it, I asked randomly whether it was any of the unseen there that did that.

The best part is after we got back from the investigation, Raz analyzed the recordings and we found out that at that exact moment where I felt something blown on  my arm, the recording captured a male disembodied voice saying, very clearly, “LEAVE ME ALONE!” It sounded pissed and this is by far the best evidence we got so far, in terms of sound evidence. Luckily it didn’t harm me.

But what if the IHS is a malevolent type? What if it attacked me? Or it ‘possesses me?

These are the things that are still waiting to happen. Bottom-line is, you might never know what will happen if you go beyond their tolerable limits in provoking.

Casefile: Woodlands Domestic Haunting

Name: Julie
Age: 40+
Medical History: Nil
Date 09/05/10
Location: One of the units in Woodlands St 83
Nature of case: Disturbances from the unseen beings. They manifest themselves  at times. The unseen beings are believed to be coming from outside of the house (corridor).

Further details pertaining the family and house unit is confidential.

Occurrences:

1. Julie’s family was disturbed by an unseen beings since she and her family moved in November 2009. Sightings of female apparition in apparition in white with long hair going up and down the staircase.

2. Continuous  ringing of floor doorbell at around midnight for half an hour until the batteries went flat. It was believed that the Julie’s husband returned home from work. Julie claimed that on some nights, the husband worked night shift and what activated the doorbell was something else.

3. Unexplained door knockings at 12 year old daughter’s bedroom during midnight.

4. Unexplained knockings from the outside on the glass window of 12 year old daughter’s bedroom. Bedroom on 2nd floor masionette house.

Report:

1.  Interview & History

We arrived at Julie’s house approx 0100hrs in the morning. It is a masionette house. We wasted no time in setting up the CCTV. The CCTV was installed at the corridor facing the main staircase. It is reported by the family that strong presence of paranormal activity was felt there.

Documentation and interview was done, hence this report was produced. Subject being interviewed: Julie, her elder sister and one of Julie’s daughter. A few of the family members are having 3rd eye phenomena. The strongest 3rd eye belongs to the youngest son which happened to be asleep when we reached the house for stakeout.

Julie and her family shifted to Woodlands from Sengkang in Nov 2009. Julie claimed that the house was sold at a very affordable price As what the subject claimed, the house was once occupied by a practitioner of Thai dark arts which includes keeping of unseen beings as servants. The former dweller divorced from his wife and the latter has the custody of his son. Judging from the interview, the former dweller hastily left the house without properly sending off the unseen beings. Julie claimed that her family was disturbed by the remaining unseen beings in the house. She can no longer tolerate the paranormal activity and eventually, she got help from her father to cleanse the house in a religious manner which is the Muslim way. Julie believed that the her house is cleansed and the unseen beings are ‘stranded’ outside the house, the corridor to be exact. In the midst of interviewing, Rosidah (SGHC member) and Julie heard whsiperings in the living room. I(Rudy) was unaware of the voices, maybe because I was too absorbed in the interview.

2. The stakeout.

The SGHC team wasted no time in preparing the CCTV and monitoring devices. The CCTV was placed at the corridor facing main staircase landing. At around 3 am, Shariff and me(Rudy) decided to burn some benzoin at the lift landing. Equipments being used are EVP recorder, Gauss Meter and handycam. Shariff taunted the spirits which may be lurking in the lift landing. 3 of the corridor fluorescent tube lights were temporarily disabled by turning the tubes.

3. Verdict.

Evidences (if any) caught in the camera and EVP recorder are in the process of analyzing. To refer to documentary when it is out.

Trigger Objects

There are new ways in paranormal investigations that we SGHC employ which are known as ‘Trigger Objects’.

The idea behind it all is to call out to the unseen whatever they may be, place an item of interest to offer to them, let’s say a palm of salt, and a spirit would come to take it. Now this story or legend has been going around in Asian culture during the kampong days whereby poverty was quite widespread. In order to escape the poverty, some desperate individuals might sought to get rich ‘legally’ by selling salts to spirits in return for wealth. We did try this experiment by Rudy Emcee, who is also our experimentalist on our Jalan Bahar Hauntings episode. Rudy placed a palm of salt on the ground near the exhumed cemetery while I cal out to the unseen to take up our offering of salts. The video below shows what happened after that…

As you can see in the video, using trigger objects might or might not cause an anomaly to happen. The object or anomaly that appeared on our static cam could be anything. Still, we have evidence, but we can’t explain it. Firstly, the unexplained flickering of our flashlights. Secondly, the mysterious anomaly that appeared to flew past the static camera. And there are EVPs (Electro Voice Phenomena) that we managed to capture on our cam.

Click the link below and fast forward to 7:20 on the timer and you’ll see what I mean.

Sir William Crookes

Born: Sunday, June 17, 1832

Deceased: Friday, April 4, 1919

Experience:
In 1870 Crookes decided that science had a duty to study preternatural phenomena associated with Spiritism. Judging from family letters, Crookes had already developed a favorable view of Spiritism by 1869. In this he was possibly influenced by the untimely death of his young brother Philip in 1867 at age 21 from yellow fever contracted while on an expedition to lay a telegraph cable from Cuba to Florida. Nevertheless, he was determined to conduct his inquiry impartially and described the conditions he imposed on mediums as follows: “It must be at my own house, and my own selection of friends and spectators, under my own conditions, and I may do whatever I like as regards apparatus”. Among the mediums he studied were Kate Fox, Florence Cook, and Daniel Dunglas Home. Among the phenomena he witnessed were movement of bodies at a distance, rappings, changes in the weights of bodies, levitation, appearance of luminous objects, appearance of phantom figures, appearance of writing without human agency, and circumstances which “point to the agency of an outside intelligence”. To find support and assistance for his research, he joined the Society for Psychical Research. His report on this research in 1874, concluded that these phenomena could not be explained as conjuring, and that further research would be useful. Crookes was not alone in his views. Fellow scientists who came to believe in Spiritualism included Alfred Russel Wallace, Oliver Joseph Lodge, Lord Rayleigh, and William James. Nevertheless, most scientists were convinced that Spiritism was fraudulent, and Crookes’ final report so outraged the scientific establishment “that there was talk of depriving him of his Fellowship of the Royal Society.” Crookes then became much more cautious and didn’t discuss his views publicly until 1898, when he felt is position was secure. From that time until his death in 1919, letters and interviews show that Crookes was a believer in Spiritism.

From that time until his death in 1919, letters and interviews show that Crookes was a believer in Spiritism. In 1861, Crookes discovered a previously unknown element with a bright green emission line in its spectrum and named the element thallium, from the Greek thallos, a green shoot. Crookes also identified the first known sample of helium, in 1895. He was the inventor of the Crookes radiometer, which today is made and sold as a novelty item. He also developed the Crookes tubes, investigating canal rays.
In his investigations of the conduction of electricity in low pressure gases, he discovered that as the pressure was lowered, the negative electrode (cathode) appeared to emit rays (the so-called cathode rays, now known to be a stream of free electrons, and used in cathode ray display devices). As these examples indicate, he was a pioneer in the construction and use of vacuum tubes for the study of physical phenomena. He was, as a consequence, one of the first scientists to investigate what are now called plasmas. He also devised one of the first instruments for the study of nuclear radioactivity, the spinthariscope.
Crookes worked over both fields of chemistry and physics. Its salient characteristic was the originality of conception of his experiments, and the skill of their execution.
Crookes was always more effective in experiment than in interpretation. The method of spectral analysis, introduced by Bunsen and Kirchhoff, was received by Crookes with great enthusiasm and to great effect. His first important discovery was that of the element thallium, announced in 1861, and made with the help of spectroscopy. By this work his reputation became firmly established, and he was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in 1863.
Crookes’ attention had been attracted to the vacuum balance in the course of thallium research. He soon discovered the phenomenon upon which depends the action of the Crookes radiometer, in which a system of vanes, each blackened on one side and polished on the other, is set in rotation when exposed to radiant energy. Crookes did not, however, provide the true explanation of this apparent “attraction and repulsion resulting from radiation”.
He published numerous papers on spectroscopy and conducted research on a variety of minor subjects. In addition to various technical books, he wrote a standard treatise on Select Methods in Chemical Analysis in 1871, and a small book on diamonds in 1909.
Crookes investigated the properties of cathode rays, showing that they travel in straight lines, cause phosphorescence in objects upon which they impinge, and by their impact produce great heat. He believed that he had discovered a fourth state of matter, which he called “radiant matter”, but his theoretical views on the nature of “radiant matter” proved to be mistaken. He believed the rays to consist of streams of particles of ordinary molecular magnitude. It remained for Sir J. J. Thomson to discover their subatomic nature, and to prove that cathode rays consist of streams of negative electrons, that is, of negatively electrified particles whose mass is only 1/1840 that of a hydrogen atom. Nevertheless, Crookes’s experimental work in this field was the foundation of discoveries which eventually changed the whole of chemistry and physics.
In 1903, Crookes turned his attention to the newly discovered phenomena of radioactivity, achieving the separation from uranium of its active transformation product, uranium-X (later established to be protactinium). He observed the gradual decay of the separated transformation product, and the simultaneous reproduction of a fresh supply in the original uranium. At about the same time as this important discovery, he observed that when “p-particles”, ejected from radio-active substances, impinge upon zinc sulfide, each impact is accompanied by a minute scintillation, an observation which forms the basis of one of the most useful methods in the technique of radioactivity.

SGHC requiring NEW equipments

For all of you who is curious, below are the items that we are vouching for soon in the near future, to help us in our continuing search for the unseen…

The TriField Natural EM Meter was designed to do field measurements for special research. It detects changes in extremely weak static (DC or “natural”) electric and magnetic fields,  and signals with both a tone and the movement of a needle-type gauge if either the electric or magnetic field changes from previous levels.   Its sensitivity is of interest to researchers in the field of parapsychology. Every type of detectable physical manifestation requires a certain amount of energy. For example, “moving air” requires the expenditure of a small amount of energy to get the air to move initially.    A radio and microwave detector is also included, which reads radio power directly. Because man-made AC electric and magnetic fields are very common and could interfere with readings of static fields, the meter has been designed to ignore AC fields. Normal construction materials don’t block magnetic fields, so the meter can be placed indoors and will work equally well, and due to the built-in tone, it can be used in the dark, and will sound the tone at whatever level of field the user sets. It operates on a standard 9-volt battery.

Look for cold spots near you and at a distance at the same time.    Do everything you can do with a thermometer with a probe and an IR non contact thermometer at the same time in the same piece of equipment!

RADIOLOGICAL SURVEY METER / GEIGER COUNTER

A geiger counter can be very useful in an investigation for monitoring the changes in the background radiation of a location. Researchers have found that ambient radiation seems to be drained or increased in the presents of ghosts. Geiger counters have been shown to be effective in paranormal investigation since the 1970′s and are recommended by ghosthunters such as Troy Taylorand Peter Underwood.

We have two different models. The VICTOREAN 717 MODEL NO 1 and the VICTOREEN MODEL 715 MODEL 1A. We only have a few of the 717′s so they will be sent out first for the same price. The main difference between the two is that the 717 can be operated remotely via a 25 foot cable enclosed in the lower compartment. Whenever we can get  the 717′s in stock we’ll send them put first. Both run on one D cell battery. Both come with an instructional manual and shoulder strap. These are the civil defense meters issued my FEMA in the 70′s. Some may have a few scratches from being moved from warehouse to warehouse over the years.

This is the same device that Mr.Black used on his smaller device in the Jalan Bahar Hauntings Episode!

This new device is sure to catch the attention of the amateur and professional alike who are seeking new and more efficient ways to enhance their investigative skills said Gary Galka, the designer and President of DAS. It is my aspiration that the features and functionality of this new Instrumental Transcommunication (ITC) device, help bring us all one step closer to better understanding not only the world we live in now, but to also help us to appreciate and prepare for the world that awaits us all in the hereafter.

Old Changi Hospital – SGHC Revisits

The day is drawing near as we are about to embark on one of Singapore’s Most Haunted location ever, the Old Changi Hospital.

There are news going around and we also received a confirmation from Sheena Cheung of Haunted Changi that the area has been locked down and CCTVs are installed all over the place. Why this is so, we haven’t got a clue but Sheena advised us to get a written permission from SLA (Singapore Land Authority) before conducting any investigations in the area.

Now as some of you might have known, SGHC has been there before in 2009 and we did document about a group of paranormal enthusiasts staking out the place with one of their mediums. There were many other groups of people around and that isn’t a good thing as they are tampering with our documentation last year.

This time around, with the place locked up, and if our request is approved, we will be all alone doing the documentary and investigations or experiments as they won’t be any outside sources interfering with our work.

Let’s just pray that SLA will approve our request. Hey, we mea no harm man, trust us!
